“Post-Meridian” comes from a larger body of work entitled Escapescapes, where Schmidt paints fictitious yet familiar landscapes from childhood memories. While not anchored to one landscape, these pieces are intended to evoke feelings of stillness and introspection. Schmidt also plays with the idea of “the frame” in this piece, keeping a loose idea of where the painting begins and ends at the edges of the square frame.
